Italian textile group Miroglio set foot in Bulgaria in 1998.
Miroglio Bulgaria, part of the group's fabrics and yarns division, operates four production units in Bulgaria and sells its output under two trademarks - Miroglio Lana and Miroglio Giorgetti.
The company operates two units in Sliven, in the southeastern part of the country, one in Elin Pelin in the west and one in Nova Zagora in central Bulgaria.
In October 2004, Miroglio launched the construction of a EUR 20 million spinning mill in the southeast Bulgarian town of Yambol and the factory was opened in early 2006.
Miroglio's first four units in Bulgaria have a total annual output capacity of five million metres of fabric.
The unit in Elin Pelin, set up in 1998, stamps and dyes silk fabrics.
The two units in Sliven produce woollen fabrics and weave polyester fabrics.
Miroglio's unit in Nova Zagora, located on the premises of the former yarn maker Buket, is for twisting of viscose and polyester silk fabrics.
The Italian textile group has invested some EUR 180 million in Bulgaria's textile sector since entering the market.
In May 2006, Miroglio said it was planning to invest some EUR 38 million to open a new spinning and textile dyeing factory with a water purifying unit in Yambol. In April 2007, Italian textile group Miroglio bought a yarn factory that was previously part of local synthetic fibre producer Sviloza. The factory, called Sviloza-Yarn, used to rent assets from Sviloza until August 2006 when it acquired its production assets from the synthetic fibre producer for EUR 6.6 million. Sviloza-Yarn, previously named Sviloza-ZIK, used to be part of Sviloza but it was spun off in 2004 and is presently owned by a 28-strong management team from Sviloza. In August 2007, Miroglio opened a BGN 73.7 million (EUR 37.5 million) wool spinning and textile dyeing factory in the southeastern Bulgarian town of Yambol. The factory will produce three million tonnes of cotton or acrylic fibres and three million tonnes of wool yarn per year. Miroglio plans to invest BGN 30 million (EUR 15.3 million) in Svilosa Yarn and its seven production facilities in Sliven in 2008.
As of end-2009 the company divided its activity - apparent manufacturing is now conducted by a new company called Miroglio Fashion Bulgaria, and the rest remained in Sliven and Elin Pelin's factories.
In 2009 Miroglio Bulgaria stopped its production activity and in 2010 the company offered rental of real estates and consultant services.
