Veolia Energy Varna (Toplofikacia Varna), which was established in 1986, is the steam heating utility operating in Bulgaria's Black Sea port of Varna.
It provides heating energy and hot water to more than 12,000 apartments in the country's third-largest city through a 33 kilometre-long network of pipelines, located in Mladost, Troshevo, Vazrazhdane and Vladislav Varnenchik regions.
In July 2006, Bulgaria's Privatisation Agency launched a tender for the sale of 100% of the steam-heating plant. In October the same year French energy services provider Dalkia International was picked as winner in the tender, in competition with UK-based ENER-G and Czech utility CEZ. The deal, worth EUR 3.45 million, was completed in late January 2007.
