Bulgarian winery Wine Cellar Pulden, which is based in the southern town of Perushtitsa, is the legal successor of Vinprom Plovdiv winery that was established in 1932.
A 25% stake in Vinprom Plovdiv was sold by the state in the country's voucher privatisation programme in 1996-97.
A total of 15% in the company were offered to company employees in preferential shares and 9.0% were set aside to meet restitution claims of pre-communist owners of the land where the plant was built.
In July 1999, Bulgaria's Privatisation Agency sold 51% of the winery to local company FIK Kompas for USD 555,072.
The buyer pledged to invest BGN 4.1 million in the company over the next three years.
In January 2000, the company was renamed into Wine Cellar Pulden.
The company's annual production varies between 3.0 and 3.5 million litres, out of which 75% is red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Rubin, Mavrud and Pamid) and 25% is white wine (Muscat, Chardonnay, Rakaciteli, Ugni Blanc).
The Pulden winery, which has an annual production capacity of 5.0 million litres, processes an average of 3,000 tonnes of grape each year.
The winery also operates a vinegar factory with an annual capacity of 770,000 dm3.
Some 20% of its total production is sold on the domestic market, while the rest is exported to the UK, Germany, Scandinavian countries, Russia, Turkey and others.
