FONPLATA – Development Bank (Fondo Financiero para el Desarrollo de la Cuenca del Plata) is a multilateral development bank created in 1974 by Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Its mission is to support the integration and balanced, inclusive, and sustainable development of its member countries, particularly in the Plata Basin region. Headquartered in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, FONPLATA finances public sector investment projects, especially those that strengthen infrastructure, connectivity, social development, and environmental sustainability. It provides sovereign loans, technical cooperation, and other financial instruments to promote regional integration and improve quality of life. The institution operates with international legal status, has an indefinite duration, and maintains high credit ratings from global agencies such as Fitch Ratings and Moody’s. FONPLATA continues to expand its operations to include non-sovereign risk financing for subnational or public enterprises aligned with national development goals.
