The Power Station of Cachoeira Dourada played an important role in the construction of Brazil. It was designed to provide the energy needed for the construction and development of Brasilia. Construction work began in the 50s. The first stage was completed in 1959, when were installed two generating units of 17 MW each. Thereafter, the plant has gone through successive enlargements. In 1997 it was acquired by Endesa Brazil, a group that also has two other plants.
