Algorta Norte S.A. is a mining company founded in 2007 that specializes in the extraction and production of iodine. Its main operation is located in the northwest of Baquedano, in the Antofagasta region, covering a total extraction area of 14,000 hectares. The company's main shareholders are Inversiones Minerales S.A, owned by members of the De Urruticoechea family, who hold 74.5% of the total shares, and the Japanese corporation Toyota Tsusho, which holds 25.5%. Toyota Tsusho is one of Japan's largest trading companies and the sixth largest in the world. It has a network of exchanges with a group of 94 domestic companies and 344 consolidated global companies, including over 150 offices and 900 subsidiaries and affiliates worldwide. Algorta Norte has become a leader in the national and international iodine production market over the years.
