In 1996, Orascom Projects and Touristic Development (OPTD) was established with the aim of grouping the Sawiris family's interests in the tourism sector under one company. In 2005, OPTD changed its name to Orascom Hotels and Development OHD. The company specializes in the design, development and investment of real estate properties, hotels, marinas, golf courses, shopping centers and restaurants. The Company has executed a number of projects in Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, Mauritius, Jordan and Morocco.
