The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) was founded in 1960 and is owned by its member countries, which include both founding and non-founding regional members, as well as extra-regional members. Founding members are Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. Non-founding regional members include Panama, the Dominican Republic, and Belize. Extra-regional members are Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, the Republic of China (Taiwan), Spain, Cuba, and South Korea. It is a multilateral development bank that focuses on promoting economic integration and balanced social development in the Central American region. It provides financial solutions and investments to reduce poverty and inequality, strengthen regional integration, and enhance the competitive participation of its member countries in the global economy.
