Soribada was the first Korean peer-to-peer file sharing service that was launched by Sean Yang as a Napster clone in 2000. The name Sanibada'means "Ocean of Sound" or "Receiving Sound". It was closed by court order in 2002, but remained distributed with the stipulation that its users were responsible for any downloaded files. On November 5th, 2003, Soribada was launched as an P2P search portal and renewed in December 2004 as a paid MP3 service. It remains the most widely used P2P system in Korea. Soribada's latest version is Soribada 6, which is downloadable from their website. In 2017 the site held their first Soribada K-Music Awards after 17 years since launch of the site.
