BBVA México, S.A., Institución de Banca Múltiple, Grupo Financiero, is the largest financial institution in Mexico, with a market share of approximately 26.7% as of 2024. The company was originally founded in 1932 as Banco de Comercio (Bancomer) and has undergone several transformations, including nationalization in 1982 and privatization in 1991. In 2000, the Spanish bank Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) acquired Bancomer, eventually rebranding it as BBVA México in 2019 as part of a global brand unification. Headquartered at Torre BBVA México on Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City, BBVA México operates a vast network of 1,706 branches and 14,500 ATMs across all 32 Mexican states, serving over 30 million customers. It is a fully owned subsidiary of BBVA Group, one of Europe’s largest financial institutions, and contributes 40% of BBVA’s global revenues, making it the group’s most significant operation outside Spain. BBVA México offers a comprehensive range of financial products and services, including savings and checking accounts, loans, credit and debit cards, insurance, investment services, pension plans, and remittance transfers. It also operates specialized units such as Banca Patrimonial, Banca Privada, and Casa de Bolsa BBVA, catering to high-net-worth individuals and corporate clients.
