The Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS), founded on January 19, 1943, by presidential decree of General Manuel Ávila Camacho, is Mexico’s largest public social welfare institution. Headquartered in Mexico City, IMSS operates under the jurisdiction of the Secretariat of Health and is governed by a tripartite structure representing workers, employers, and the federal government. IMSS’s core business activities include the provision of healthcare services, pensions, disability and life insurance, maternity and illness coverage, retirement fund management, and workplace safety programs.
