Fonacot was created in 1974 as trust fund, with the objective of giving loans for purchase of goods and services to help raise the living standards of workers, increasing their wellbeing and that of their families.In 2006 it abandoned his trust figure when the the Law Institute of the National Fund for Workers' Consumption was issued and it changed its name from Fondo Nacional para el consumo de los trabajadores (FONACOT) to Instituto del Fondo Nacional para el consumo de los Trabajadores (INFONACOT. Today promotes better access to market credit and other financial services, for obtaining goods and services of high quality, competitively priced for workers.
