South Luzon Thermal Energy Corporation (SLTEC) is a Philippine independent power producer operating a coal-fired power plant located in Calaca, Batangas. It is a joint venture formerly involving Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corporation (now ACEN) and other partners. The facility consists of two 135-MW circulating fluidized bed (CFB) units, supplying a combined 270 megawatts of baseload power to the Luzon grid. SLTEC's operations include fuel handling, power generation, boiler and turbine maintenance, emissions control systems, and grid coordination under long-term power supply agreements. The company has also been undergoing transition planning as part of ACEN's strategy to gradually shift towards renewable energy, including evaluation of potential plant retirement ahead of industry peers. Key assets include its CFB units, port and coal-handling systems, environmental-monitoring infrastructure, and a skilled operations team. Strategically, South Luzon Thermal Energy Corporation functions as a key baseload provider in Southern Luzon while supporting long-term energy transition efforts aligned with sustainable power-generation goals.
