Karayollari 1. Bolge Mudurlugu is a regional unit of the national highway authority responsible for planning, construction, management and maintenance of state and provincial roads and motorways within its jurisdiction, covering the Marmara region including the Istanbul metropolitan area. It oversees thousands of kilometers of roads, major bridges, tunnels and key logistic corridors. Its activities include road and bridge construction, resurfacing, winter road services, traffic safety improvements, signalling, routine and emergency maintenance. It manages strategic road infrastructure that supports freight transport, mobility and economic activity. Strategically, it focuses on increasing network capacity, improving traffic safety, reducing congestion and modernizing regional transport infrastructure in line with national transportation development programs.
