The electric power industry in Russia generates 3% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) and the government sees it as a strategically important sector. So, in accordance with the Federal Law, the Russian government controls key assets in the power industry such as the nuclear and hydroelectric power facilities, as well as the major transmission facilities.
