EnerSys AD manufactures lead-acid traction and stationary batteries. 70% of the production is for export. Main export markets of the company are Russia and Ukraine. The company is listed on BSE and in 2000 was among the first to issue a 5-year corporate bond. In January 2007, the Luxembourg-registered Enersys Holdings, part of U.S. industrial battery maker EnerSys, paid some EUR 13 million to acquire an 88% stake in the company. In March Bulgaria's financial regulator approved EnerSys’ application to launch a buyout offer to minority shareholders in Energia. The U.S. company said it planned to delist the car battery producer from the BSE after the buyout has been completed.
